To enjoy the flexibility and customizability of this theme you need to create a new page which is going to be the homepage. Don't worry if this is the first time you're creating a page to be your homepage, it's easy, just follow the instructions bellow.
Simply create a page you want to be the homepage, go to "Settings" → "Reading" and under "Front page displays" select "A static page" and as the "Front page" select the page you just created.
